Biography

After studying music at the University of York, Nigel Yandell gained a postgraduate scholarship at Wadham College, Oxford, where his doctoral research focused on eighteenth and early nineteenth century keyboard music in Russia.

Since then his interests have expanded into new areas, including aspects of music publishing and historical performance practice. A contributor to the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians and related publications, Dr Yandell is an experienced solo pianist, accompanist and coach, performing and lecturing widely in the UK and Europe.  Formerly a Director of the London Sinfonietta, Palace Opera and Pro Corda, he is currently a Director of the Stradivari Trust and an external examiner for the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Dr Yandell's areas of teaching/supervision across the Cambridge Tripos focuses principally on technical and practical skills (performance, aural/musicianship, keyboard skills, harmony/counterpoint) and late eighteenth/early nineteenth century historical studies.
