The post of Music Outreach Officer made an exciting new addition to the Faculty Staff in 2009. Joe Shaw took over the post in June 2013, continuing the excellent work of his predecessor Ruth Hardie. Having studied Music here in Cambridge as an undergraduate (graduating from Emmanuel College in Summer 2010), Joe has worked for a number of Music organisations and charities, and has recently completed a PGCE in Music at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He is thrilled to be responsible for the CaMEO project and looks forward to continuing to deliver a diverse outreach programme and to build on the success of the past 4 years.
Joe is responsible for the design, development and delivery of all education, community and widening participation projects for the Faculty of Music, alongside delivering public events for the University festivals. Drawing on the expertise and enthusiasm of the faculty students and staff, Joe helps the faculty to engage with local and national communities, provides music education and music-making opportunities for these communities, coordinates volunteering placements for our students and provides information and advice to prospective applicants. In his spare time, Joe enjoys going to the theatre, practising yoga and travelling, and is looking forward to cycling Lands End to John O’Groats next year.
