Following the annual Britten Sinfonia Composer's Workshop in March, it has been announced that Alex Tay has been selected to write three commissions for Britten Sinfonia, to be premiered during the pre-concert event on 27 April 2016 at West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge. Six student composers were selected to work alongside composer Judith Weir and conductor Hugh Brunt in a day-long event following which Alex was selected, by the panel, to receive the commission.

Alex is in his final year studying music at King’s College, where he divides his time between composition and performance.

Alex will be writing three pieces for Britten Sinfonia. The first will be a piece for solo instrument, the second for chamber ensemble,  and the final commission for full chamber orchestra, each work lasting up to 3 minutes in duration and all will be premiered in Cambridge on 27 April 2016.
