Newton Online Catalogue System
The University’s online catalogue system, called Newton, is a web-based catalogue, accessible from any PC or Mac running a web browser. You are strongly encouraged to attend induction sessions provided by the University Library.
Catalogue records for Pendlebury materials are in the Departmental and Faculty Libraries O-Z database. Newton is easy to use and provides both basic (novice) and advanced (expert) searching modes; it provides search-engine style keyword searching for words anywhere in the author, title, series, subject, etc., as well as sophisticated and accurate index searching. You are urged to explore the facility for setting search limits – for instance, Item Type (‘Book’, ‘Music score’, ‘Sound recording’) and Location (‘Pendlebury Library of Music’) – thereby reducing the number of hits for a search. The system has extensive online help. The Pendlebury Library’s guide to Newton, ‘Newton for Music’ is also available.
LibrarySearch (beta)
LibrarySearch (beta) is a new search facility at http://search.lib.cam.ac.uk//
which allows resource discovery across several platforms, combing all records from the Newton library catalogues, material from the DSpace@cambridge repository, as well as a high number of databases.
ejournals AtoZ
ejournals@cambridge inludes links and information to all University subscriptions (i.e. ejournals A-Z).
Card catalogues and finding tools
All card catalogues have been discontinued, but are still available for those areas where retrospective cataloguing is ongoing.

- Microfilms (including microfiche and photos)
- Post-1975 acquisitions: card file
- Sheaf catalogue of pre-1975 acquisitions
- Early printed books and music (mainly pre-1851)
- List of unbound material from the Pendlebury Library Rare Books Room (XR shelfmarks)
