Clemens Gresser is the Deputy Head of Music at the University Library and the Pendlebury Library of Music. He studied musicology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität (Frankfurt am Main), Keele University and Southampton University. He gained experience as a librarian at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität’s Musicology Department, before later working at the University of Surrey, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the British Library. In 2008 Clemens completed an M.Sc. in Library and Information Studies at City University with a dissertation on ‘E-resources for study and research in music: an evaluation, with specific reference to bibliographic tools’.
When he is not working in a library, Clemens is interested in twentieth-century art music (especially from the USA and Germany after 1950). He has published on Earle Brown, John Cage, Frederic Rzewski and Christian Wolff. Apart from these musicological activities he is interested in the visual arts, particularly architecture, and politics. Clemens likes to cook and eat vegetarian dishes.
