Cambridge University Opera Society (CUOS)

The Cambridge University Opera Society (CUOS) is one of the largest and most prestigious student opera groups in the UK, with a busy calendar of events taking place throughout the year. Every year CUOS stages a wide variety of operas in a number of different venues around Cambridge. It is the hard work of determined students that enable CUOS to thrive.

CUOS provides a platform for young performers, having nurtured the first collaborations of David Pountney and Mark Elder, and launched the careers of David Atherton, Michael Chance, Andrew Kennedy and Alan Clayton. A recent offshoot of the Society’s activities has been the development of education programmes (The Marriage of Figaro and Hansel and Gretel took opera into 19 local schools).
