Dobrinka Tabakova

Dobrinka Tabakova’s ‘exciting, deeply moving’ music (Washington Times) has been featured in festivals including the BBC Proms, UK; Schleswig-Holstein, Germany; Moscow Homecoming, Russia; World Sun Songs, Latvia and Dark Music Days, Iceland. Tabakova’s debut profile album ‘String Paths’, on ECM Records, received critical praise and was nominated at the 2014 Grammys. In 2017 she was appointed composer-in-residence with the BBC Concert Orchestra (BBCCO). She is a recipient of the prize for an anthem for Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and first prize and Medallion at the Sorel Choral Composition, New York. Her second profile album, devoted to her choral music and performed by Truro Cathedral Choir, together with BBCCO, was released on Regent Records and received the 2019 Critic’s Choice of Gramophone Magazine. She has recently completed the orchestral ‘Earth Suite’ for the BBCCO and a violin concerto- ‘The Patience of Trees’ for the Manchester International Festival. She is currently working on a piece for Britten Sinfonia to mark the Barbican Centre’s 40th anniversary in 2022. Tabakova studied at the Guildhall School of Music and received a doctorate from King’s College London.
