Open Days

admissions 3

The Faculty of Music participates in the University of Cambridge Open Days each year. Dates for the 2018 Open Days are Thursday 5th and Friday 6th of July.

Between 10.00am and 4.00pm, we will have information stands at the Faculty of Law; these provide you with a great opportunity to come and talk to academics and musicians about studying music at Cambridge, and about the music-making opportunities that exist within the University. Subject specific sessions will be run by the Music Faculty in the afternoon of each of the Open days from 2.00-4.15pm:

  • 2.00-2.30pm: Tours of the Faculty of Music
  • 2.30-3.15pm: Dr Sam Barrett, Head of Department, will give a talk on studying music at Cambridge, the course, facilities and musical opportunities.
  • (5 July) 3.30-3.50pm, Taster Lecture: Professor Nicholas Marston, on Schumann's  ‘Kommen und Scheiden’;
  • (6 July) 3.30-3.50pm, Taster Lecture: Professor Ian Cross, on Music and Science
  • (5 and 6 July), 3.55-4.15pm, Taster Lecture: Professor Marina Frolova-Walker on Shostakovich

In addition to the Faculty of Music events, the Open Day programme offered to current Year 12 or equivalent students includes:

  • Presentations that explain the Cambridge system, the application procedure and interviews, as well as sessions outlining student finance, support for students with a disability and the work of the careers service.
  • All 29 Colleges that accept undergraduate students are open at certain times during the days for you to find out more about College life.
  • Staff and current students are on hand all day to answer any questions about studying at Cambridge and the application procedure.
