Faculty of Music
Derek read music at Selwyn College (1995-98) and has since been working as a freelance performer and teacher. Since November 2022 he has been Music Coordinator at Lucy Cavendish College, where he works with the students to facilitate music making, and is looking to strengthen musical bonds between the college and other parts of the university and community.
His academic interests include physical acoustics, and functional harmony. He plays piano and percussion, and as a teacher specialises in jazz harmony and improvisation. He regularly accompanies for exams, and is also a keen arranger.
