IMS Outstanding Dissertation Award 2023: Peter Asimov (Award Winner) and Alana Mailes (1s Honorary Mention)

We are delighted to hear news of the IMS Outstanding Dissertation Award decisions for 2023, which honour two of Cambridge’s Early Career Fellows in Music. We offer warmest congratulations to both.

Peter’s current projects include performance-driven historical studies of French modernism, the musical work of Yvonne Loriod (1924-2010), and the intellectual history of rhythm; in addition to several publications in progress drawn from his thesis. Peter is currently a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the Faculty, and Lumley Research Fellow in Music at Magdalene College.

1st Honorary Mention

Mailes, Alana: “Mobility, Diplomacy, and Musical Exchange between England and Venice, 1600–1660” Harvard University, Cambridge (US), 2021.

Alana’s dissertation explores the contributions of diplomats, spies, merchants, and other travellers to musical exchange between Italy and Stuart England. In it she argues that Anglo-Venetian musical interactions were critical to shifting political and commercial relations between the two rival maritime empires. Alana is currently Thole Research Fellow in Music at Trinity Hall.
