Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra (CUSO)

CUSO is Cambridge’s premier student-run symphony orchestra. Founded in 1990 to give the best student conductors a high-quality ensemble of student musicians (entry is by audition only), the orchestra has gone from strength to strength and earned itself a strong reputation in the competitive Cambridge environment. The orchestra is run entirely by a student committee drawn from the players.  Find out more about the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra.

Cambridge University Opera Society (CUOS)

The Cambridge University Opera Society (CUOS) is one of the largest and most prestigious student opera groups in the UK, with a busy calendar of events taking place throughout the year. Every year CUOS stages a wide variety of operas in a number of different venues around Cambridge. It is the hard work of determined students that enable CUOS to thrive.

CUOS provides a platform for young performers, having nurtured the first collaborations of David Pountney and Mark Elder, and launched the careers of David Atherton, Michael Chance, Andrew Kennedy and Alan Clayton. A recent offshoot of the Society’s activities has been the development of education programmes (The Marriage of Figaro and Hansel and Gretel took opera into 19 local schools).  Find out more about the Cambridge University Opera Society.
