Faculty of Music

The Faculty of Music is committed in its pursuit of academic excellence to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach to equality, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity.

Our work is mindful of the Equality Act 2010, which designates nine protected characteristics: age; disability; gender reassignment; marriage and civil partnership; pregnancy and maternity; race; religion or belief; sex; sexual orientation. Our work on equality, diversity, and inclusivity is not limited to these areas; in particular we note the issue of economic inequality.

The Faculty’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (ED&I) Committee reports to the Faculty Board of Music and meets termly. It aims to achieve within the Faculty a culture that promotes and values equality, diversity, and inclusion across all areas of Faculty activity, including teaching, learning, examination, research, recruitment, and administration.

If you are a member of the Faculty seeking advice or support, you are encouraged to contact our Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Officer Jennifer Goodwin (facultymanager@mus.cam.ac.uk).

The Faculty has been awarded an Athena Swan Bronze Award, and you can see our application and action plan here.

Accessibility

The Faculty of Music aims to enable all students, staff and visitors to participate in the academic life of the Faculty to the fullest possible extent, regardless of disability.  If you have suggestions for how the Faculty can be a more accessible place of study and work, please contact the Disability Liaison Officer (DLO). The DLO may not know all the answers, but they will find out the answer for you or point you in the right direction for advice, information and support.

Support for disabled Staff

If you are a disabled staff member, the University’s Occupational Health and Safety Service can provide advice and support. It can arrange an occupational health assessment to support you if a disability, impairment or chronic illness may affect your ability to perform your job. An occupational health practitioner will then be able to give advice and recommendations to you and management regarding necessary modifications and adjustments to the work environment and/or job design.

You can find further support through the University’s Disabled Staff Network, which welcomes all individuals who work for the University, a College or an associated institution and consider themselves to be a disabled person.

Support for disabled students

For student that have or think they have a disability support is available from the Accessibility and Disability Resource Centre (ADRC).
