The library building, designed by Sir Leslie Martin, was opened in 1984 and offers the following facilities:

  • open-access library collections
  • the main reading room, which also contains our reference section, recent Music Tripos examination papers, and short-loan items
  • a study room with our electronic legal deposit terminal, an additional catalogue PC, computers and a stand-alone monitor (with keyboard and mouse) for users, a multi-function device for printing/photocopying/scanning, and a standing desk
  • the Dent room with our microfilm and facsimile collections, a digital microfilm reader/scanner, and a digital piano (headphones can be borrowed from the issue desk). This room can be booked for meetings between noon and 5pm during term-time, provided that you have been unable to find another suitable space within the Faculty or the colleges. All booking enquiries should be sent to pendlebury@mus.cam.ac.uk, with your preferred date and time and purpose for booking
  • a library break room for relaxing and socialising, which also contains the library wellbeing collection
  • a dedicated study space for use by currently-enrolled postgraduate students of the Faculty of Music, with desks, stand-alone monitors, and a digital piano (headphones can be borrowed from the issue desk)

Note on photocopying and copyright

The photocopying of copyright material is restricted under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (and later amendments) and EU legislation. Users must satisfy themselves that any copying they undertake is legal. Guidelines on copying (incl. the PMLL Code of Fair Practice for printed music) are displayed in the library.
