The class will focus on the role of the continuo instruments (keyboard and bowed bass) and the crucial dialogue between continuo instruments and voices. The relationships with the text and singer, and between the keyboard and bowed bass instruments will be explored. The implications of the notation and possible conventions and the balance between harmonic structure and text will also feature in the class. Taken by two experts in the field, many more questions will arise during the afternoon. Cellists, bass players, keyboard players and singers are invited to apply to perform in this masterclass.
