1000-year old melodies for Boethius' On the Consolation of Philosophy as reconstructed by Sam Barrett (Reader in Early Medieval Music), Ben Bagby and Hanna Marti with Norbert Rodenkirchen are now available for download in a new performance edition.
Six songs from the recovered Cambridge Songs leaf span Boethius' lament in the face of his impending execution through to Philosophy's stern rebuke to rein in his emotions. Featuring the restored melodies in an innovative format, with guidance on how to read the notation, a free to use translation and commentary, this edition provides everything performers need to prepare their own versions of the Songs of Consolation.
