Faculty of Music

The Faculty of Music are delighted to announce that Dr Raquel Rojo Carrillo will join the Faculty as a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow from September 2018. Dr Rojo Carrillo, an expert on early medieval chant, joins Cambridge from the University of Bristol, where she has recently worked as a Research Fellow on European Research Council, Leverhulme and AHRC projects relating to the manuscripts, music and liturgy of the Old Hispanic (Mozarabic) rite. In the period before 1080 this liturgy, a fundamental marker of identity for Christians in medieval Iberia, survived several attempts to suppress it. Dr Rojo Carrillo’s postdoctoral project will examine the turbulent transition period that resulted in the institution of the Roman rite, and its Gregorian chant, by the Council of Burgos.
